About Elidel Medication

Elidel (pimecrolimus) is used to control the symptoms of atopic dermatitis (a skin disease that is also called eczema). Pimecrolimus is only used to treat patients who cannot take other medications for atopic dermatitis, or whose symptoms were not controlled by other medications. Pimecrolimus is in a class of medications called immunosuppressants. It works by stopping the immune system from producing substances that cause eczema.
Elidel Warnings
Before using Elidel, talk first to your doctor if you have the congenital skin disorder Netherton's syndrome.
It is not known that Elidel can cause harm to an unborn baby. Do not use Elidel without seeking to your doctor if you are pregnant or whether you are planning to be pregnant during the treatment.
Elidel is not known whether it is passes into breast milk of humans so do not use this medication when you are breastfeeding a baby. Talk first to your doctor.
Elidel is not approved for treatment for children aging two years old and below.
Elidel Application Guidelines
Elidel is being applied exactly as the doctor directed. Elidel is applied twice a day, 12 hours apart. Before applying Elidel, be sure that your skin is completely dry. Rub the medication gently to your skin and do not cover the area being treated. Use Elidel for as long as the symptoms of atopic dermatitis persist or as prescribed by your doctor. If the condition does not improve or if it gets worst, talk to your doctor immediately.
Never swallow this medication. Elidel is used only on the skin or this medicine is for external use only and not to be swallowed or ingested. If Elidel is being ingested, seek medical attention immediately.
Elidel Dosage
Apply a thin layer on the infected skin. Apply Elidel twice a day. Before applying Elidel to the skin, always make sure that the affected area is washed first and is clean from dirt or any other impurities.
Always follow your doctor’s instructions on how to apply Elidel effectively.
Elidel Overdose
Overdose is not likely to occur when only a liberal amount of Elidel is applied to the skin and if your doctor’s instructions are carefully followed. However, if overdose occurs, immediately ask a medical authority to cater to the adverse effects brought about by Elidel overdose.
Elidel Missed Dose
Skip the dose you missed if it is almost time for the next dose and use only the regular scheduled dose if that happens.
Elidel Side Effects
If you experiences of an allergic reaction stated below, seek medical attention immediately and stop using Elidel.
- Difficulty in breathing
- The closing of your throat
- swelling of your lips, tongue, or face and hives
Elidel Drug Reactions
You may not be able to apply Elidel or require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you are taking another medicine that affects the immune system such as antibiotics and such medicines. It is important that you always inform your doctor of the drugs you are taking before deciding to use Elidel.
STORAGE: Store at room
temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees
C) away from light and moisture.
